Written
by the legendary crime writer Dame Agatha Christie,
Towards Zero provided Jeff with the opportunity to
portray one her well known detectives in the role of
Superintendent Battle. To convince in this role Jeff
was required to give his character an air of a lack
of imagination erring on the slightly stupid in
order to lull his suspects into a sense of false
security before revealing a stolid, common sense
side to his nature and thus brilliant detective
mind. The complex plot centres on Lady Tressillion,
a humourless bedridden old woman who is murdered by
one of several guests she has invited to her house
for the summer. The play was performed at the
Belgrade, Coventry in 1970. |
