Love on the Dole by Ronald Gow and Walter Greenwood enjoyed a two week run at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry in April 1970. A poignant story set in a northern manufacturing town during the depression of the 30’s, it relays a tragic but shrewdly humorous tale of a family whose happiness is destroyed as a result of unemployment. Jeff portrayed the role of Larry Meath, the love interest of the family daughter and a socialist agitator on whom the fortunes of the family ultimately transform through ill-fated circumstances. Also appearing in the play as Mrs Dorbell was actress Carmen Silvera who went on to achieve much recognition for her role as Mde Edith in the hit BBC comedy Allo Allo.
